I am a designer and educator from Newcastle, currently working as an Assistant Professor on BA Fashion Design at Northumbria. My background is in womens’ and childrenswear design for companies such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Boden.
Having worked in the fashion industry for 12 years, I understand the need for systematic change in attitudes and mindsets towards circularity, and the important role of education in effecting this process.
My MRes research interests explore the concept of ‘Play’ and how playful methodologies can be applied to fashion design undergraduate teaching, with the aim of creating innovative concepts and unconventional design approaches that help to address the need for greater circularity in the industry.
I seek to understand how, by using ‘Play ‘as an important part of the creative process that allows us to tap into other parts of our brains and enable new ways of seeing, we can as a design community, go beyond cognitive learning and expand consciousness to achieve higher levels of empathy, bigger picture capabilities, and innovation.
